In 2011, two needs were identified and added to our goals. A short term goal was added of providing seminars about issues of aging to the community on a monthly basis, which began in October 2011; and a longer term goal of helping our community become ready for the Age Wave.

The greater Fredericksburg area consists of 5 localities: the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, and Stafford counties. The service area covers more than 1394 square miles with a population of over 327,700 in 2010 and has seen substantial growth in the past 10 years. The population of those over the age 65 in Virginia is 12% with similar statistics for the Fredericksburg area. The Fredericksburg region is expected to grow 3.7%, compared to the 1.2% annually over the decade for Virginia.

Age Wave planning is a process to help our community ready itself for what some call the Silver Tsunami.  Every day, 10,000 baby boomers turn 65.  We believe that our community can establish itself as a desired place to age in place by creating universal access, activities, and more.
